Arcade pt 2
We went to the Arcade Fire concert last night. David Byrne sang a song and apparently David Bowie was floating above my head (but I didn't notice). More importantly, beards are super in. It was like Afghanistan pre-Enduring Freedom in there. Best of all, a short fellow was standing next to me screaming very informative little tidbits to his equally stentorian date. For instance, “That song is about the neighborhood! They actually have four songs about the neighborhood! Isn’t that crazy!?”
The concert flipped wigs and Byrne is still in top form. Before Arcade Fire, one of the violinist (I guess he’s called Final Fantasy—video game retro is sooooo the dope) played a couple songs. Then a bunch of mustachioed college kids came on and were running all around the stage playing every instrument they could get their hands on. At first I found it unsettling but then they put on motorcycle helmets and kabuki masks and I calmed down. About that time, I noticed all of the beards. Finally, Arcade came on and calmly blew socks off feets and David Byrne made me go Holy Shit dude and the little fellow to scream out "Who the Hell is that?!" Then I missed the L (guess what? The L is under construction again!). Quite an evening.
