Thursday Morning

1. The King Of All Elite, Effete Snobs

Bob Cesca skewers Rove and his "love doll," and it's so necessary. Funniest, most dead-on thing I'm gonna read today. And you can see a nasty chunk of 41's stomach in there. Thanks to Tara for this - as she notes, ol' Bush Sr. must do pilates.

2. The final word on Giuliani's foreign policy over at Unqualified Offerings: "You will not enjoy a day of peace so long as Rudy has anything to say about it. Peace is something we will 'achieve' in the distant future when the lion has been clubbed senseless with the lamb." (Also, via Reason: Rudy would have you believe that oppression is freedom.)

3. Gallup's latest: Support for Dem Presidential Candidates by Education Level. Hillary's crushing amongst those with high school or less; Obama's got the upper hand amongst college-educated or more; and Edwards is even at 14% across the board. Historically, Gallup points out, this type of "education skew" is common for at least one candidate in recent Democratic nomination cycles (Dean '04, Bradley '00, Bob Kerrey '92) - and, perhaps surprisingly, it doesn't bode well for Obama.

4. TI-83 sprites!

4. Of all the country stations I've listened to this summer - and there have been a lot, from Kansas to Vermont, Colorado to California, New Mexico to Maine - I'm inclined to say that Big Country Legends 93.5 KBHT out of East Texas is the best. Best disc jockeys, best local ads (high school football!), AP news at the top of every hour, and a great mix of classic country. Lots of stations do the classic country format, but most just regurgitate the same 50 or so songs throughout the day. KBHT seems to dig a little deeper. I miss some of the new country jams - like this, uh, inexplicable guilty pleasure - but I can always head over to Real Country 93.7 out of Vermont when I need a Faith Hill & Tim McGraw fix. Barbecue stains on my white t-shirt, etc.
