Speaking of Debates...
Found this old clip from the disastrous 2000 general election campaign over at The Stump, The New Republic's '08 coverage blog, and it fucked me up. Amazing - especially (and tragically) in light of what we know now - how despite Gore making the better argument, Bush "wins" the moment with that one curt head nod, that "I'm trying to order a drink at the bar and I'll insult you when I'm done, so just cool out for a minute, little dude" kind of look, that faux-Texas acknowledgment of Gore's aggressive stride-and-stand, which in itself is a bizarre physical gambit that backfires horribly.
God, how incredibly distant and surreal this seems now.
