Friday PM

Up to Buffalo this evening with my people. Routes 81 & 17, I shall see you soon.

The occasion, of course, is Sunday's battle against the Oakland Raiders at Ralph Wilson Stadium. There's a ceremony, too: At halftime, the Bills will put Bruce Smith's name on the Wall of Fame. That's first-ballot-Hall-of-Famer-in-2009 Bruce Smith, the legendary #78, BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE, hammertime, "bad things man," he of the 200 career sacks and 43 forced fumbles, the one and only. Looking forward to seeing the man at the center of the field one more once.

Ok. Quick afternoon round-up:

1. Speaking of football, more Americans want to watch football with Obama than with McCain. Interesting comments, too:

"I think he'd be fun to sit back with and hear his experiences, all his stories," said Kyle Ferguson, 28, a Republican from Santa Rosa, Calif., who picked McCain. But reflecting a sense some voters have of McCain based on the complaints of a few Senate colleagues, he added warily, "I bet he'd probably get pretty angry and lit up if his team was losing."

Yo Kyle - McCain's an Arizona Cardinals fan, so, uhhh, better not have any breakables nearby. Hide the lamp, you know???

2. Still speaking of football, the always-quotable Joe Biden visited the Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio yesterday. A bunch of gems, but here's the Bills-related one:

They first entered a room with busts of all the Hall of Famers. Perry noted that many visitors say it feels like entering a church. "It sure does," Biden agreed. One of the busts that caught Biden's eye? O.J. Simpson. "Now there's a guy who ruined his life," Biden said. "But what an athlete."

3. Yglesias sees an opportunity in the forthcoming legislation to deal with the economic crisis:

If the powers that be tell me that the country needs something like the financial measures being announced today, I'm not going to disagree with them. But tactically, I think it'd be crazy to just hand this package over for the President's signature. Every time progressives in congress try to get something done for working people, conservatives either block it or else hold it hostage to some nutty tax cut. Why not tie this bailout to something like the second stimulus package of enhanced food stamps, extended unemployment insurance, and enhanced aid to state governments straining under the yoke of Medicaid payments?

4. My friend Brains to me yesterday re: El Stence - "you're like the huffington post, except dudical."

5.
